How language is used to resist, deny, or reconstruct the status quo?
Language is said to be a universal notion. Throughout our every day lives, we use language to converse what we feel, what we see, and tell stories. The best thing about language is the power it has given us without realizing it. Language is OUR VOICE. The power of language gives individuals, deemed as unimportant in society, their voice. For example, we use language to resist in any aspects of a protest, and even debates. In order to perform our duty as an individual we typically argue. Arguing your position or even others exemplifies the use of language in resisting. Then, goes to the fact that we also use language to deny. An example would be Trump's statements. He would publicly say something but, the very next day he alludes the people that he didn't say such thing. Hence, denying through language. Another side to denying language, is when the denial, lies, becomes the reality because of the continuos denial. Reconstructing the status quo plays a big factor in the power of language. As a society, we're so used to traditions that when a new tradition comes along it becomes controversial. That's when we reconstruct the status quo. For example, celebrities use their voice through speeches, which is language, in order to spread awareness. Their platform as a celebrity allows them to be able to try constructing new ideas. I know, however voicing out our ideals can be either detrimental or beneficial when doing so. Just realize LANGUAGE is a powerful thing.
