“The only way to deal with an unfree world is to become so absolutely free that your very existence is an act of rebellion.”
---Albert Camus

Disagree or Agree?

I disagree with Albert Camus because who is it to say that the unfree world actually gives you the option to be free. I mean if so, why would being free be an act of rebellion? Defining free is overrated because who actually knows the stature of free in this case even the idea of freedom. Let's put this way the things we do, say, and act upon is highly depended on how as an individual perceives is as. Sure, in the world we live in retrospect actually limits the many's view of freedom. However, I'd like to see it as limited freedom is better than no freedom at all. Since, I'm seeing this perspective of freedom actually lives on , I believe that if this is considered as act of rebellion during my existence as a human being. Let them be, because after all they are the ones who are trapped on the ideology of unfree world. This is my existence not yours.

The question is whether you'll like to see being free as a colorful thing or dull black & white thing.

How language is used to resist, deny, or reconstruct the status quo?

Language is said to be a universal notion. Throughout our every day lives, we use language to converse  what we feel, what we see, and tell stories. The best thing about  language is the power it has given us without realizing it. Language is OUR VOICE. The power of language gives individuals, deemed as unimportant in society, their voice. For example, we use language to resist in any aspects of a protest, and even debates. In order to perform our duty as an individual we typically argue. Arguing your position or even others exemplifies the use of language in resisting. Then, goes to the fact that we also use language to deny. An example would be Trump's statements. He would publicly say something but, the very next day he alludes the people that he didn't say such thing. Hence, denying through language. Another side to denying language, is when the denial, lies, becomes the reality because of the continuos denial. Reconstructing the status quo plays a big factor in the power of language. As a society, we're so used to traditions that when a new tradition comes along it becomes controversial. That's when we reconstruct the status quo. For example, celebrities use their voice through speeches, which is language, in order to spread awareness. Their platform as a celebrity allows them to be able to try constructing new ideas. I know, however voicing out our ideals can be either detrimental or beneficial when doing so. Just realize LANGUAGE is a powerful thing.

We’ve become such a narcissistic, “me-first” society that common courtesies have gone right out the door – with a moral fiber that’s barely a thread. And while I’m hardly a religious zealot, I do think a large part of the problem is the secularization of our culture at the hands of the allegedly tolerant and compassionate “progressives.” We’ve taken God out of our schools and poke fun at religion; we devalue human life by condoning abortion and branding anyone who stands up for the unborn a woman-hating Neanderthal. Two-parent households are considered an anachronism; a woman who stays home with the kids instead of getting a job and relegating child rearing to day care is deemed lazy. We all but legalize a drug, marijuana, that takes away ambition and drive, and we attack anyone who’s successful and wealthy – regardless of how hard they work, or how many sacrifices they’ve made in life to get where they’re at. Government has become not an enabler of the private sector, but it’s a misguided Robin Hood, at the expense of personal responsibility – and personal values.
                              ---Stephen Arnold

I agree with Stephen Arnold that our society has become a narcissistic one. It's clearly evident that our society gets outrage when a new idea or principle dethrones the old tradition . This is when traditions starts being questioned when a new one comes. With all the questioning, people who outdone the traditions are targeted. This is because it was dubbed as not the right to way to behave. Because after all, we're suppose to follow the society's principle right?

Explore your mask. What does it say? What does it hide? Who built it?

The mask that I put on is built by me. I'll be a hypocrite if I say the mask I wear is all because of me. The thing is it isn't. The power is given to me to build the mask but the pushing will is from many different aspects. An aspect is the society's dictation of the human beings. I, myself, gets pressured by the unwritten laws/rules. It instigates me to oblige without being consciously awake. You can say I'm a victim but, I beg to disagree it is just up to me to release from my invisible cuffs of society. For now, I can say I still follow but, with much more consciousness to it. Another aspect is the perception of how things is and should be. This differs due to the understanding what is right and wrong. My mask says, point of view of others, I can see through you. As a mask wearer, I can't truly pin down what it hides because I might know either. So, I think in this moment one thing I hide is fear-- rejection.

What is the significance of the writer's claims that this new style of journalism has turned politics into a "blood sport . . .and an exercise in serial lying."?

I believe that explaining the significance is beyond my capability. Why is that? There is no amount of word or phrases the can truly symbolize the significance of this new style of journalism because there shouldn't be one. At the end of the day, the things said in politics merely implies what and how the person is. It is up for us, whether to acknowledge his or her reflection through "half empty or half full" ideals. In my opinion, those can argue otherwise,  I fully agree to the writer's claim that politics turned into a blood sport and exercise of serial lying. The majority of the politicians now, state claims that are just a display of deceit to the people to their own benefit. As they say it is easier said than done, this quote applies to fact that things are being said but, those statements doesn't necessarily entitle to the doing of such action. I conclude my opinion.

Thought of the Day

Voice.Idea.MyThought

"The media is too concentrated. Too few people own too much. There’s really five companies that control 90 percent of what we read, see, and hear. It’s not healthy."

---Ted Turner (American Media Mogul, Founder of CNN)
Agree or Disagree?
The media, in all sorts of form (social media, television, and etc.), we see daily is highly biased and this statement of mine leads to the conclusion that I agree with Ted Turner. The phrase, "media is too concentrated", itself is not an understatement. The different ideas or should I say voices that we should hear among the people is not present. Why is that? The mere things we hear around us are the only ones dubbed worthy or more like approved the owner of the companies themselves. Each and every news we come across can be easily said to be tampered with because we don't really get truth. This sentence I just wrote is beyond what can be apprehended by others. The reason for that we believe what we want to believe and honestly no one stop you or even in that case me (I believe what I want to believe). Going back, not getting the truth is perceived as an exaggeration but, I beg to disagree because we do get the truth, I know it's in contrast with my previous statement. Within that truth given to us by the media is only a portion to nothing on what actually occurred. Just bluntly saying that the truth portrayed can be doubtful because of those who owns that certain platform. At the end, you can only believe what you want to believe but, just realize to what extent is that something is true.

Yours Truly, Amy Tan
